‘Uneak Press, Inc’ Owner Elaine Zuliani has spearheaded several successful Austin, Texas based enterprises since the early 1980's. ‘Uneak Press, Inc’, Inc. is her first publishing endeavor. The move was inspired by author/screenwriter J. A. Carlton, who was the first author that she brought on board.
‘Uneak Press, Inc’ is a new kind of publishing company that takes a cue from the Screenwriting industry. Authors are brought on board through their ‘Uneak Author Award’, a contest that runs semi-annually. Deadlines are from January 15-June 15. A one time processing fee of $10.00 per contest entry (limit 5 per author) ensures your first chapter or 25 pages are distributed among the judges. Once the winner(s) of the contest are named, ‘Uneak Press, Inc’ goes to work prepping the manuscript, working with the author on everything from formatting to cover design and marketing strategies.
‘Uneak Press, Inc’ is currently open to submissions just like any other publishing house. In these difficult economic times we understand that contest entry fees can be considered a frivolous expense, and as such may be considered a roadblock for some authors. So, we have opened our email box and are welcoming e-queries and submissions. All submissions must be fiction with the rights owned by the party submitting the work. The work should be completed in the event a .PDF, Word Documents or Docx is requested.
A standard query letter containing; genre, logline (a 25 word or less sentence that conveys the concept), and a brief summary of the work and its themes will be required.
Author name and contact information should be contained within the body of the email. Authors should query first, no unsolicited attachments will be opened. If an author would like to include the first page or two within the body of the email that is perfectly acceptable.
The selection process will still be contest inspired with judges selecting their favorites and narrowing down the choices over a six month period with winners announced at the end of June and December respectively.
