Paul W. Conant is an experienced copyeditor of fiction and nonfiction, including magazines, books, newsletters, presentations and textbooks. Whether you are a writer or a publisher, you will find more information about copyediting, as well as links to helpful resources. You also can submit sample text for a free estimate.

Paul W. Conant is a resident of Dallas, Texas, and has owned PWC Editing since January, 2000. He has been copyediting since 1994 for the publishers of Bride and Groom Magazine, the Society for the Preservation of English Language and Literature (SPELL), and Piccadilly Books.

Paul has an undergraduate degree in Mathematics, followed by graduate studies in linguistics and information systems. He has fifteen years experience word processing and preparing proposals for a large accounting/consulting firm.

Since forming PWC Editing as a full-time business, Paul has processed three High School Science textbooks for J. M. LeBel Enterprises, taking each one from manuscript form to final, four-color published form. He also navigated each book through the State of Texas approval process with integrity, accuracy and speed.

Editorial Services:

Line Editing:

The basic level of copyediting, where one reads a manuscript or document to find typos, grammatical errors, problems with syntax, and format differences, and to delete alignment problems, heading style inconsistencies, and specific publication guideline differences.

Substantive Editing:

Suggesting rewrites, reordering content, doing research for photos or Web sites, and/or adding a glossary. It may also include checking the validity and labeling of charts, tables, and photos; checking on answers for questions; ensuring companion or ancillary books are referenced correctly and even complex word processing of all the changes.

Proofreading:

Once a manuscript is edited ensuring that it reads the way the author intended it to, that corrections are made, and formats are consistent. It may also include the creating or checking of indexes, alphabetization of lists, and the correct explanation or demonstration of nontext elements (structures, formulas, equations, etc.). I always proofread Word files, using standard Track Changes and the Reviewing tab or toolbar, depending on the version of Word.
